Kathy Hershfield, LICSW brings a range of experience to her work as a psychotherapist. Kathy uses a client-centered approach and brings support, warmth, and a sense of humor to her therapeutic work. She provides a safe, non-judgmental, and warm environment with a focus on building the therapeutic relationship as she believes this is necessary before clients are comfortable exploring and discussing underlying thoughts and feelings that will help them develop an understanding of their impact on everyday life.
Kathy is certified in EMDR a method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. She is experienced working with individuals beginning in young adulthood through later stages of life. Her areas of specialty include depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, grief and loss, trauma and stress-related disorders, relational stressors, life transitions, and self-esteem.
Kathy uses a variety of modalities including psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based interventions, stress management/relaxation techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Kathy received a BS from Syracuse University and an MS from Boston University in Communication Disorders. She received her MSW from Bridgewater State University and holds a LICSW in the state of Massachusetts.
